Welcome to Play Positive

While each individual is affected differently by autism and other disabilities there are some attributes that are often shared across our player population, including differences related to:

  • Reading emotions, body language and facial expressions

  • Building and maintaining pro-social relationships

  • Problem solving and grey area thinking

  • Dealing with change and disruption to routine

  • Emotional Regulation or Frustration Tolerance

  • Understanding and Applying Social Skills Within Context

  • Feeling confident and empowered

  • Connecting to community

  • Engagement in traditional supports such as speech therapy, counselling, school, etc.

Play Positive is designed to help address these challenges.

Our
Story

A small yet diverse team with a focus on empowering players to find their tribe, Play Positive was founded in 2019 in response to an ad on a Facebook group seeking a GM for a young man with autism.

This led to Dylan, who had already been studying the positive impacts of D&D in therapy, connecting with the family and running our first ever group.

From there, Play Positive grew and continues to seek innovative strategies to support neurodivergent individuals and their families to live their best, most fulfulling lives.

Our Difference

Leading the way in

therapeutic play

01

Trauma-Informed

We would not be who we are without our trauma-informed approach, which is at the core of our therapeutic sessions. This approach embodies hope and optimism that recovery is possible whilst ensuring our work does not creature further harm. Key components of our sessions include safety, trust, clear boundaries, player empowerment and ongoing choice.

03

Person-centred Practice

We know that you are unique. A lot of services provide one-size-fits-all styles of support but this generally does not have successful long-term outcomes.

We tailor our methods to meet you where you are. This includes, providing a variety of accessible ways to engage with us, using your preferred method of communication, reflective practice and regular feedback sessions and commitment to ensuring we are still meeting your needs and having fun!

02

Integrated Support

You deserve the highest level of support, and we work tirelessly to maintain those standards. As such we seek to provide support beyond the table-top sessions with opportunities for parent information sessions, ongoing psychoeducation, referrals to other services and additional advice wherever possible.

04

Professional Research & Lived Experience

We are constantly working to improve our offerings and expand upon our therapeutic capabilities. Our specialist team of professionals combines lived experience of disability and mental health alongside evidence-led methods to develop innovative support. When you choose to work with our team, know that you are consistently choosing compassion, quality and excellence.
